July 26 S.slope "Signal Hill" 7100 ft. 3/4 mi. W Donner Pass, Place & Neada
Cos, Calif - only 1 heard singing in tall, dense chaparral
(including cherry & maple) where 3+ were found
regularly a month ago.
July 27
2+ in this area (1 seen while other singing).
July 31 Sugar Bowl Creek, 7050 ft. 1.3 mi. SSW Donner Pass, Place
Co, Calif - 1 singing from dense path of 5 ft. high
willows at lower end of a cleared ski slope.
This is the first live found on this cold N-facing
slope this year [see June 17]
Aug.2 { S.slope "Signal Hill" [see above] - Still 2 encounters
Aug.3 } on 1/2 hr. trek (1+ hrs uphill, 1/4+ downhill) along
edge of chaparral slope. 1 singing on 2nd.
singing - exact time yrs
2 heard (different places), 1 of them seen on 3rd.
Aug.5 Cisco Grove, 3650 ft. [see p.17] - 1 seen & heard calling
(no songs) in some area of dense shrubs along
stream where found all summer.
Aug.11- 7100 ft., 1/3 mi. S Donner Pass - 1 seen (cf. June 29)
Big Bend Camp Ground, - 1 seen (cf. June 30).
Aug.22- 6300 ft., 3+ mi. S Lake Van Norden, Placer Co, Calif - 2+
seen in dense manzanita - ceanothus - huckleberry
oak - bitter cherry chaparral (cf. July 11).
Aug.24 S.slope "Signal Hill" [see above] - 2 foraging together
on & bare dirt & sparse herbs of the "jeep" road
by the chaparral. One pecked 708 stems
at the flowers or seeds of a small pink
Liranthus which is abundant here.
