July 12 Rev. - 1 (or several?) heard singing from fee[...]
weet
thickets on a small grassy flat by small lake.
This is the "Mt. Rose Bowl" ski area.
June 28 E. side Boca Res. [see June 22] - about 5 found,
3 of them singing from sagebrush bordering
grassy swale.
July 2 Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft., 1/2 mi. SSW Donner Pass, Placer
Co. Calif. - 1 ad. trapped in treble-type trap
set on feeding tray over 3 ft. high young
pines by alder-bordered stream. It was
banded (#48-110627) & released.
altho many are found in the thickets
bordering the stream & the meadow beyond
it, they do not come near the grain &
raisins I've been using for bait.
July 8 Hampshire Rocks Camp 3rd, 5900 ft., 9 1/4 mi. W, 1/3 mi. S
Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - 1 singing from willows
& creek dogwood thickets along stream in lodge.
pole pine - red & white fir - Jeffrey pine forest.
There are also many aspens & cottonwoods
along the stream, but no open meadow.
This is the lowest altitude W of the Sierras
crest at which I have found the species to date.
July 10 E. side Boca Res. [see June 22, 28] - about 5 seen or heard
in some area &t on previous visits. Still several
singing. 1 pair seen carrying food (caterpillars)
scolded us vehemently from tops of sagebrush.
