June orygames
4
July 26 8750 ft. 2½ mi. SSE mt. Rose, Carson Range, Washoe Co., Nev.
About 15 seen, including several fledglings being fed
by adults, on 20 min. walk [cf. June 27].
Late
July near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft. [see p. 1] - Some tendency
toward flock formation above the family group
level is evident. A flock of 10 on July 31 included
at least 5 adults. 1 ad. ♀ was banded July 31
(# 47-81434) in same trap as the pair on June 28,
which pair has not been seen in that area for some
time. The nest 30 ft. above ground on the
lodge (see June 28) apparently produced no young,
or the female is no longer seen near it. Songs
are much less frequent now, but 1 was heard
on 31st.
Aug. 2 The nest described on July 20 now holds 4 small,
young.
A record of observations at this nest
by Audubon Campers is attached to this page.
Aug. 4 - 1♂ (# 47-81436) and 1 juvenile (# 47-81437) banded
cought in same location as those on June 28 & July 31.
maintenance of territories seems definitely relaxed;
no songs having been heard for several days.
Aug. 8 - young gone from the July 20-Aug. 2 nest; they
were doubtfully old enough to leave naturally.
Aug. 14 another NEST, just within edge of forest
behind the lodge, is located among Serenoa leaves
at base of a twisted, dead pine sapling. It holds
4 young est. to be about 6 days old. The ♀
parent is # 47-81429 (see June 28) recognizable by her
