Passerculus sandwichensis
June 25 Sierra Valley, 4900 ft., Sierra Co., Calif. - 4 or 5 singing individuals on each of 2 excursions we made across wet grassland (1 mi. N Sattley, 6 1/2 mi. N Sierraville), of about 1/2 mi. & 1 mi., respectively. One adult was carrying food & obviously excited over our presence near its nest, which we did not find, however.
July 9 E. of Camp Richardson, 6230 ft., S. end Lake Tahoe, El-dorado Co., Calif. - 2 flushed together from one of few dry grassy areas in border of extensive marshland. (no song heard - late a.m.)
July 10 E. side Boea Reservoir, 5580 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. 1 singing from top of sagebrush on small slope above a wet grassy swale.
July 27 Little Truckee R. valley, 5800 ft., 3 mi. E, 5 mi. N Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. - 2 flushed from grassland dotted with willow thickets [on 10 min. walk from car]. — a likely nesting area, as is Boea, above.
Aug. 1 C. end Lake Van Norden, 6770 ft., Placer Co., Calif. - 2 seen in willow thickets & adjacent dense, wet sedge growth at mouth of the inlet creek.
Aug. 15 4 flushed repeatedly from the open meadow near this same spot, the growth of grass, sedge & other herbs being now from 6 to 18 inches high.
[illegible] Both of the above records are undoubtedly of mi-grants (either altitudinal or ?), since none found here earlier.
Aug. 17 Little Truckee R. valley, 5800 ft. [see above] - about 10 flushed on 1/2 hr. walk thru pastured grassland.
