June 21 S.slope "Signal Hill", 7100-7300 ft., 3/4 mi. W Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif - about 3 seen or heard in hard chaparral of juniper mat + green leaf manzanita + huckleberry oak sparsely dotted with various sized conifers.
2 also noted in taller, denser "soft" chaparral containing much bitter cherry, mountain maple, etc. Only 1 singing during our 1 1/2 hr., 1/2 mi. walk.

June 22 2 singing from small patches of short shrubs on steep mountainside cleared of trees for ski slope.
June 22 E.of Boca Reservoir, 5600 ft., Nevada Co., Calif - common in sagebrush - antelope brush of flats + shallow gullies, many singing in late p.m.
June 24 near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft., 1.2 mi. SW Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif - 1 singing from tall thicket of willows in edge of moist meadow (no dry shrubs nearby), a rather unusual habitat for this sp.
June 25 Battley, 4980 ft., Sierra Valley, Sierra Co., Calif - 2 sing-ing from fence posts + short Jeffrey pines on sagebrush covered slope near broad, wet vally.
June 28 Boca Reservoir [see above] - about 5 heard, several singing and one fledgling seen - on some sagebrush flat as noted on 29 nd
June 29 7100 ft., 1/2 mi. SW Donner Pass Placer Co., Calif - 1 seen (singing) in mixed chaparral area (huckleberry oak, manzanita, ceanothus cordulatus, + bitter cherry) on rocky W-facing slope with nearby patches of dense forest.
July 8 S.slope "Signal Hill" [see above] - 2 singing birds seen.
