June 19 near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft., 1.2 mi. 55W Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - a flock of about 30 came over tree tops of snow-carpeted forest, a few of them stopping for a few seconds in tops of detached clumps of firs in "Cogswell meadow", then hurrying on over Disney Mtn. to the south.
June 22 2 flew into tree tops (red firs) by the parking area at the lodge, then on again after 5+ min.
June 23 Emigrant Gap, 5200 ft. Placer Co., Calif. - flock of 8 flew N.E.'ward along chaparral-covered N-facing slope & on over forested area (Transition zone) before
June 24 7100 ft., ½ mi. S Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - 3 flew into tops of tall pines near Sierra Crest ski trail (south cleared of trees), called a few times, & then went on Eastward toward Donner Peak.
July 19 Sugar Bowl Lodge [see above] - 1 flew over, calling, headed S.E. toward Emigrant meadow.
July 23 10,000 ft. W. Slope Job's Sister, Carson Range, Eldorado Co., Calif.
A flock of 18 flew low over the stunted [illegible] white-bark pines just below timberline and alighted in an area of 15-20 ft. gnarled trees which were oozing sticky, glistening pitch from many damaged branches. I was able to get up to 6 or 7 ft. from several of the birds, one of which was pecking cruelly with opened bill at the pitch, then opening & closing its bill rapidly, then repeating the process. The impression was that it was eating the pitch. This & several others were very dull -
