Cogswell 1950 Spinus psaltria 2 Aug. 4 Bear Valley, 4580-4600 ft., Nevada Glacier Co., Calif. - I flew over N. side of valley calling. 1 imm. ♂ (bright breast & back, but no black cap) seen on thistles by rock outcrop where this sp. seen on June 17. Aug. 5 Cisco Grove, 5650 ft., on S. Fork Yuba R., Glacier Co., Calif. 2 seen in same area as on July 22. Aug. 9 6200 ft., E. base Carson Range, 3 mi. WNW Washoe, Washoe Co., Nev. 1 seen in low, spaced shrubs (sagebrush + chaparral types) in open Jeffrey pine forest. Aug. 18 S.E. end Bear Valley, 4600 ft., Glacier Co., Calif. - 1 imm. ♂ seen, & another individual flying over, in same area of oak dotted conifer forest bordering grassy meadow. Aug. 24 E. slope "Signal Hill", 7100 ft., 3½ mi. W Donner Pass, Glacier Co., Calif. - plaintive calls of this species heard in thistle filled clearing of open pine - fir forest just above highway US-40. This record, as well as those of July 20, 23, Aug 1, & perhaps also those at Cisco Grove, represent up- mountain movement from breeding areas, the highest altitude of any of our probable breeding birds being those at Bear Valley (4600 ft.) on the W., & Verdi (4800 ft.) on the E.
