Fred Beak - Jobs Sister Saddle (at about 10,450 ft).
July 23 E slope "Signal Hill" [see p.1] - about 10 found on July 27
on 25th
1½ hr. visit, covering ½ mi. of trail. Several still singing.
July 26 8750 ft., 2 1/3 mi. SSE Mt. Rose [see June 27] - 3 found in 1/2 hr. visit.
lato July - near Sugar Bowl Lodge [see p.1] - no songs heard. Individ-
uals & groups up to 5 still fairly common.
Aug. 2 First definite fledglings seen (begging food).
Same also at "Signal Hill" this a.m.
Aug. 9 8800 ft., 2 1/3 mi. SSE Mt. Rose [see June 27] - 4+ in 4 plumage,
and at least 1 juvinal still with down on head
& begging food with "wheelu" call note. Near
sparse
small patch of willows among, whitebark pine,
mountain hemlock, & lodgepole pine forest.
Aug. 10-11 various locations just W & SSW Danner Pass, 6700 - 7000 ft.

Extremely common in open pine forest, flocks of
up to 20-25 flush from roadside as we drive
by L. Van Norden, altho mixed with larger nos.
of Chipping Sparrows. No songs heard now.
1 juvinal was banded (#110631) after it got into
48-
an open-top unbaited trap set by Denis Cogswell
near alder thickets by the lodge, This bird was
shipped to Y2 Salt at the MVZ on Aug. 12. It
is the first finch I have gotten in a trap; they certainly
will not go into a gourd sparrow trap even when
it is placed in middle of their feeding area.
Loose flock of 40+ feeding on cleared ski slope near
scattered trees by Lodge on Aug. 17. Nearly all are indull
