from oaks (Q kelloggi) at border of dense forest.
Aug.5 Cisco Grove, 5650 ft. on S fork Yuba R. Placer Co., Calif
1m. J, 1? seen in ? near willow thickets on gravelly
stream valley floor, a few hundred feet from loc. of July 22.
Aug.14 near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft., 1.2 mi. 5SW Donner Base,
Placer Co., Calif- 1 calling from tall lodgepole pines
on dry knoll near wet willow thickets. This
is first one noted here for over a week, at the regular.
Aug.15 E.end L.Van Norden, 6760 ft. Placer Co., Calif- 1 ad. J im
willow thickets along mouth of inlet creek R.
Aug.18 Yuba Gap, 5800 ft. S.end Sec 22, R 12E, T 17N. Nevada Co., Calif.
1? flew across small pond surrounded by forest
of yellow or Jeffrey pine, white fir, incense cedar,
landing on a wire near narrow strip of Ceanothus
cordulatus & integerrimus bordering the pond.
Aug.21 Grosser Co., 5650 ft. 1½ mi'.E, 3½ mi. N Truckee, Nevada Co., Calif.
2 ? seen in scattered willow thickets in heavily
grazed creek bottom, which is otherwise grown
nearly
to coarse grassland, with sagebrush on slopes.
Aug.24 7100 ft. 3¼ mi. W Donner Base, Placer Co., Calif.- 1 seen
(sex?) heard calling- in bitter cherry thickets
on steep S facing slope.
No records near Sugar Bowl Lodge later than
Aug.14; but 'Sugar Bowl' itself (see July 14-26) was
not covered. The territorial J in wet
meadow at 7000 ft. certainly disappeared by Aug.1.
