C. velutinus, arctostaphylos patula, Drimys emarginata)
and young black oaks & conifers, the latter in
small detached clumps.
July 4 { near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft., 1.3 mi. 5SW Donner Pass,
July 11 Placer Co, Calif - 2 singing from tall thickets of
July 13 willow in wet meadow and from clumps of
July 17 firs nearby. These are new arrivals I am
sure, for none were heard here on 3 or 4 visits
during the last 2 weeks. Their singing is
persistent & localized in area, so perhaps
they are defending territory - alls doubt
fully nesting at this altitude. The leaves
have just nicely gotten out on the willows.
