June 17 S.E. end Bear Valley, 4680 ft. Placer Co., Calif - 1 ? flew over wet grassy meadow & forest border, "singing" (high, glassy whistle).
There are a few cows pastured here.
June 20 E. end L. Van Norden, 6800 ft. Placer Co., Calif - 1 pair seen (? singing occasionally), foraging in company of Brewer's Blackbirds on meadow & about willows.
June 23 Bear Valley (see above) - 3 seen in flight (1 sang).
July 4 E. end L. Van Norden (see above) - 1 pair engaged in a long continued aerial chase about & between the sparse pines & low willow thickets.
July 6 high whistle (song) of ? heard in same area.
July 18 ? flew back & forth over this same area several times - but did not give the whistle this time.
In the nearby willows a loud food call sounded much like a fledgling of this species; but when I attempted to trace it in last minute of time available, it ceased & a ? Wilson's pucilla scolded me sharply.
Aug. 5 Cisco Grove, 5650 ft., on S. Fork Yuba R., Placer Co., Calif.
1 juvenile seen well as it foraged for itself on open ground & flew up to perch on telephone wires. Did not keep company with few black birds present. There is a fine patch of tall cotton-woods and much thicket growth along the stream here, with nesting yellow warblers, warbling vireos, etc - as possible hosts.
Aug. 18 S.E. end Bear Valley, 4600 ft. Placer-Nev.Co. line, Calif - 1 ? seen in alders & on wet sand (came to drink?) by Bear R.
