July 10 E side Boea Reservoir, 5600 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - many
seen, several of them carrying food (to fledglings?).
July 12 Trouble Meadows (S.of Bend), 4500-4600 ft., Washoe Co., Nev.
July 26/Aug. 9 Very common in farmland - wet grassland areas.
July 21 Bear Valley, 4880 ft. Nevada Co., Calif - flock of 20+ birds
in grassland & on gravel outcrops in same. Several
young still being fed were included, all tho able to fly
well with the flock.
20+ seen or Aug. 4 also.
Aug. 1 I. Van Norden, 6800 ft., Nevada & Placer Cos, Calif - greatly in.
cresced numbers here now as compared to month
ago. Single flock of 100+ seen.
Aug. 6 Kingsbury Grade (Nev. Rt-17), E. flank Carson Range, 5500 ft.,
Douglas Co., Nev. - 2 seen perching in pines scattered
on low sagebrush-covered mountain slope.
-Carson Valley (E.of above) - common on or near grassland.
Aug. 7 E side Boea Res. [see above] - several present; all
young apparently now independent.
Aug. 9 Martis Valley, SE Truckee, Nevada Co., Calif - several seen
along road thru sagebrush flat (above grassy
wale).
Aug. 15 I. Van Norden [see above] - still numerous A. Immature
males are now in post-juvinal molt, showing
patches of shing feathers & slightly whitish eye.
(AREA of 30+)
Aug. 16 Cisco Grove, 5650 ft., on S. Fork Yuba R., Placer Co., Calif.
5 (2 & imm. ?) foraging on gravelly ground in open
near tall cottonwoods.
Aug. 17 Little Truckee R., 5800 ft., Sierra Nevada Co., Calif - flock of about
30 foraging among, near cattle on, grassy valley
between sagebrush slopes.
