8:50 One observer within three feet of baby bird. Fledgling motionless. Baby teeters on branch. No sound, then M. sang twice.
8:55 Third observer walks towards fledgling. All adults cry alarm.
8:56 Parents circled closer.
8:57 Fledgling still sitting on branch, not moving or calling. Less chirping from sidelines.
8:58 M. flew overhead, joined by F. and both flew to lodgepole pine 40 feet to left of baby.
9:00 Parents flew 10 feet closer to baby.
9:05 Adults quiet, baby still not moving.
9:12 Adults chirped. Fledgling chirped reply.
9:20 Baby still sitting, moved head occasionally.
9:25 Pair still guarding, as well as parents. Now only parents continue to chirp. M. circles from lodgepole.
9:30 Fledgling chirped. Parents answered. Still have not fed baby because of presence of observers. Three observers left.
