Cogswell 1950 Agelaius phoeniceus June 17 BE. end Bear Valley, 4590 ft., Placer Co., Calif - Several June 23 (3+?) in & about small wet sedge area at head of large grassy valley. The sedges where they are probably nesting are only about 2\frac{1}{2}ft. high. June 22 E. side Boca Reservoir, 5550 ft., Nevada Co., Calif - Several in low wet sedges & grasses of swale in sagebrush country adjacent to reservoir. June 25 Sierra Valley, 4900 ft., Sierra & Plumas Cos., Calif common in wet grassland areas in central part of valley. June 27 Reno to S. of Steamboat Springs, 4500-4700 ft., Washoe Co., Nev - Very common in grassy fields & about farmyards & near wet ditches, etc., along US Route 395. Males displaying in air overhead. July 7 Bear Valley (see above) - only 1 ? noted on 1hr. visit. July 9 S. end Lake Tahoe, 6230 ft., Eldorado Co., Calif - abundant? in & near tall tule marshes E. of Camp Richardson. Many fledglings were being fed by adults in tules. July 12 Reno to S. of Steamboat Springs (see above) - still numerous, but males not displaying now. July 21 Bear Valley, 4580 ft., Nevada Co., Calif - 244, 1 or more ?? seen in clump of pines & black oaks in center of meadow. July 26 Reno to S. of Steamboat Springs (see above) - Conspicuous by absence where common 2 weeks ago, at the Dr. Joel Austin. Aug. 23 Gustafson reported seeing 2. -> I saw a flock of about 10 ?? here, Aug. 5 4500 ft., 2 mi. ESE Reno, Washoe Co., Nev. - a large flock of mixed ? 44 and imm. ?? & a few adult ??, estimated at 500 total, was feeding on farm grain fields & in cattle feeding areas with X xanthocephalus
