Cogswell 1950 Wilsona pusilla June 17 vicinity of Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft., 1.2 mi. SSW Donner Pass, Nevada Co., Calif. - Several heard singing in border area of coniferous forest & willow thickets of meadows & streambanks. The shrubs are still leafless, with much snow on all N-facing slopes. This species, as others more characteristic of broad-leaved trees, seems to be using the conifers a great deal while the shrubs are without foliage. June 19 An estimated 10 heard singing in forest border and willow & alder thickets in the same area, on a 2 hour walk thru same. June 22 7000 ft., 3/4 mi. E Soda Springs, Nevada Co., Calif. - 2 seen (singing) in mixed hard & soft chaparral on SW-facing slope near forest edge. The shrubs include buckleberrry oak & manzanitas, aspen, bitter cherry, etc. There is much water trickling in small drain- ages because of melting snow. June 24 near Sugar Bowl Lodge (see above) - more frequent in the willows of meadow area, the leaves of which are now beginning to unfold. June 24 W. end Donner Lake, 5950 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - about 5 encountered in 30 min. spent along the inlet creek stream, which is bordered by dogwood & willow, with some tall aspens. 2 birds were seen at close range as both sang & chased other thru low thickets on one side of the 10 ft. wide streambed. No actual fighting was observed, but one hopped close to the other, facing first R then L with tail fluttering rapidly.
