Oporornis tolmiei
3
aug.24 - 7,100 ft., 3/4 mi. W Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - I see
another heard in same shrub area which
has held the sp. all summer [see July 8 & other dates]
(but none in forest areas without understory
the other warblers common there -- see
"Ice Tables" under Vermivora celata, D.auduboni)
aug.25 7100 ft., 1/3-7/3 mi. S Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - 2+
heard in cherry, ceanothus, huckleberry oak
shrub area (cf June 29 & later dates).
aug.26 near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft. [see above] - 1
in edge of wet willow thicket.
[General: - this sp. seems more restricted
to moist shrubbery than V. ruficapilla; for
altho both are found together early in
summer the tolmiei does not occur
widely thru forest during post-breeding
period as does ruficapilla].
