Croswell 1950 Oporornis tolmiei 2 July 11 6500 ft., 4 mi. SW Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif - 1 heard singing in chaparral composed of green leaf manzanita + Ceanothus fremontii & few black oaks on old logged off area in Transition zone forest. This is a dry S facing slope well up from any stream (Onion Cr. is over ½ mi. away). July 21 N Emigrant Gap, 5200 ft., Placer Co., Calif - 1? seen in mixed hard & soft chaparral + scattered pine outliers on N. facing, dry slope. July 25 7100 ft., 3¼ mi. W Donner Pass - 3+ seen or heard, 1 of them singing, - in same area as on July 8. July 27 2 heard calling in dense cherry + Ceanothus shrubs. July 30 6600 ft., ½ mi. E Donner Pass, Placer + Nevada Co., Calif - 1? seen in young pine and surrounding thickets of Ceanothus, Spiraea, aspen, & cherry about 20 yds. up from stream. Aug. 2 Aug. 3 7100 ft., 3¼ mi. W Donner Pass - 1 heard (each date) in same shrub area where this sp. undoubtedly breeds [above] Aug. 5 Cisco Grove, 5650 ft., on S. Fork Yuba R., Placer Co., Calif. 2 very dull-plumaged ones, with almost white throats (but merging to pale gray on upper breast & then abruptly to yellow), seen in willow creek - dogwood thickets along stream. Aug. 11 near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft., 1.2 mi. SSW Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif - 1 in similar plumage (= imm. & according to J.G. Dickba who saw it with me) in willow thickets. Aug 15 E end L Van Norden, 6765 ft., Placer Co., Calif - 1? in willows in Sugar Bowl Cr. mouth. Aug. 18 near Sugar Bowl [see above] - 1 in strip of low alders along narrow opening (intermittent) in dense conifer forest.
