Cogswell 1950 Oporornis tolmiei June 17 Big Bend Camp #2, 5800 ft. on S. Fork Yuba R., Placer Co., Calif. June 30 2 heard singing in cherry, ceanothus, & huckleberry oak thickets of wide cleared strip under power lines. June 22 7000 ft., 3/4 mi. E Soda Springs, Nevada Co., Calif. - 1 ? seen (singing) in dense chaparral of bitter cherry, ceanothus cordulatus & velutinus, manzanitas & huckleberry oak, with short aspens, scattered here & there. & considerable surface moisture. This is on a SW- facing slope near forest edge. June 29 7100 ft., 1/3 mi. S Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif - 1 singing July 13 regularly (a m. & p.m.) from bitter cherry thickets July 18 amid chaparral (huckleberry oak, manzanita, etc) on W facing slope. There are scattered tall pines & firs in the chaparral & denser forest. July 3 7000 ft., 1.2 mi. SW Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif - 1 singing July 11 from willow thickets surrounding a clump of young red firs about 200 ft. from forest edge. This is the same spot which was occupied by a singing ? in 1948; but I am quite sure it was not here in mid June of this year. July 5 Squaw Valley ski lift, 7000 ft., in Sec. 31, R16E, T16N, Placer Co. Calif - 1 seen in top of young fir on shrub covered slope & 1 heard singing in extensive huckleberry oak thickets with small amount of admixed bitter cherry & aspen. July 8 7100 ft., 3/4 mi. W Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif - 2 heard singing & seen in dense thickets of bitter cherry, mountain maple, tobacco brush & manzanita with sparse pines & firs admixed.
