Dendroica anduboni

Aug. 18 near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft. [see p. 1] about 30 in - single loose flock (incl. some other sp. also) in forest just N of lodge.
Aug. 21 near Grosser Cr., 5700 ft., 1-1/2 mi. E, 3-1/2 mi. N Truckee, Nevada Co., Calif. - several seen in sparse, arid forest of Jeffrey pine + low sagebrush. This seems not to be a breeding area, but probably represents post-breeding dispersal downslope (as does also Aug. 17 record, above, in same habitat).
Aug. 24 Ice Lakes Camp ground, vic., 6900 ft., 3 mi. W, 1 mi. S Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - an est. 200 seen or heard in 1-1/4 hrs. spent in traversing or "sitting still" here + there in mod. open lodgepole pine - red fir forest. Many of them were coming in to drink and/or bathe at a small pond in forest. They, along with most other small birds there [see V. celata, Vireo gilvus], came around thru forest canopy to approach water thru a dead tree which lay with its top in the water. The branchwork (+ even some needles) being more or less intact provided cover + enabled them to avoid crossing the 30+ ft. space between tree canopy + water elsewhere.
To Aug. 26 near Sugar Bowl Lodge [see p. 1] - continued common, tho some other sp. of nearblers seen less so the last few days.
