Cogswell 1950 Dendroica auduboni 2 July 14 (cont.) area at border of Cogswell meadow, was so thin, that the young ones had poled a hole thru the bottom. One of them was giving a food call from low herbs almost immediately below the nest; one of at least 2 others in the nest was straddling the hole, its naked belly plainly visible from below as it grasped the shreddy borders of the hole with widely spread legs. I captured and banded (#47-81433) the young bird on the ground. As I approached it, the adults came to within 15 ft., both giving vehement "tchup" notes. As I picked up the young one, it gave a little squeak and the 2 parent immediately came to about 4 feet in front of me and performed a zig-zag display with wings and tail spread, the latter widely. The second NEST was about 15 ft. up over dry forest floor, in a tree along the road but on the side toward forest. July 17 Young in each of these nests still being fed by adults. I could not locate the bird I banded 3 days ago near where I had released him by setting him in a bush. July 19 ..20 15 to 20 on early morning visits of 1+ hr. to suitable forest & forest edge areas. Fledg. livings being fed by adults on 20th.
