Cogswell 1950 Dendroica auduboni June 17 to June 30} near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft., 1.2 mi. 55 W Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - 2 singing 8" on, 2\ hr. walks in red fir, all 1-2.5 lodgepole pine, white pine forests. June 20 Soda Springs, 6750 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - 1♂ in full breed- ing plumage, and a ♀ separate from him, were forag- ing on the ground + about wood litter at horse Corral; with the nearest trees (lodgepole pines) 150 to 300 ft away. June 23 N side Bear Valley, 4585 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - 2 seen in edge of dense incense cedar, yellow pine, & black oak forest. June 24 Cisco Grove, 5650 ft.; on S fork Yuba R., Placer Co., Calif. 1♂ seen in tall Black Cottonwood trees, but near lodge- pole & Jeffrey pines. June 30 Big Bend Camp Ground, 5800 ft.; on S fork Yuba R. Placer Co., Calif about 5 heard singing in tall, dense conifers (white fir, Jeffrey pine, lodgepole pine). 1♂ & 1♀ came to my whistled owl call, along with other species. July 7 N side Bear Valley, 4585 ft. (see above) - 1♂, 1♀ seen in edge of firs, - 5100 ft., 1/3 mi. S Lake Spaulding, Nevada Co., Calif. - 5♂ heard singing in tall, dense forest of white fir, yellow pine, incense cedar, & sugarpine (few), with good understory. July 14 near Sugar Bowl Lodge [see above]: 2 NESTS located, each situated on the leafy part of a much-branched horizontal limb of red fir; but tho on the main branch, each was fairly well hidden by small twigs & needles around it. Pair of adults feeding young in each nest. The first nest -- , about 18 ft. up over a wet, boggy
