Cogswell 1950 Dendroica aestiva (= petechia) 2 July 5 Cisco Grove, 5650 ft. on S. fork Yuba R., Placer Co., Calif. 3 heard singing in same area as on June 24. One fledgling was BANDED (#47-81431). As I picked it up from its perch in a low willow near the stream, the adult ♂ came to within 8 ft. of me, calling loudly with wings fluttering & tail spread. July 8 Still 3 singing ♂♀ here; no sign of fledglings. July 9 SW end Lake Tahoe, 6240 ft., Eldorado Co., Calif. - 1 singing from 1-200ft. wide strip of lodgepole pines on sand dome along shore, isolated from any riparian & woodland habitat by broad tule & pondweed marshes & open fields. July 10 Truckee R. at Union Mills, 5600 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - 2 singing. from narrow willow strip along turbulent stream July 11 6500-6300 ft., 2½ mi. W, 3½ mi. S Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. (early a.m.) 3 heard singing in small black oaks scattered on dense chaparral, S-facing slope, well away from any stream. July 12 Reno, 4500 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. - Several heard singing as we drove from shade trees along city residential areas. July 26 July 22 Cisco Grove [see above] - about 8 encountered in the usual ¼ mi. stretch of riparian woodland. Several ♀♀, fell yet July 23 Brockway, 6250 ft., N. end L. Tahoe, Placer Co., Calif. - 1 heard singing from aspens along small stream by forest edge. Aug. 5 Cisco Grove [see above] - 2 heard singing in cottonwoods. Aug. 6 Carson City, Ormsby Co., Nev. - 10+ in shade trees of state capital grounds; only 1 was singing (at noon). Aug. 9 Reno - 2♂ singing in Idlewild Park, + 1♀ seen. Aug. 16 Cisco Grove [see above] - 3♂ heard singing, others calling & seen.
