July 13 "Cowgill Meadow" 7000 ft., 1/2 mi. SSW Donner Pass, Glacer Co, Calif - 1 ♂ seen in willow thickets of this quite roost area — where they do not nest. This is the first record this season away from probable breeding areas.
- 1/4 - 3/4 mi. N Donner Pass, 7200 - 7300 ft., Nevada Co, Calif - 2 seen in low shrub thickets (manganita, spiraea, huckleberry oak, ceanothus cordulatus) and scattered sparsely pines & firs.
These areas probably also not breeding ones be-cause of low stature of shrubs & relative dryness.
July 19 E. end L. Van Norden, 6760 ft., Glacer Co, Calif - 1 ♂ in willow thickets # in stream mouth; it was involved in a chase with a Vermivora celata (q.v.)
July 23-27 7100+ ft., 3/4 mi. W Donner Pass, Glacer Co, Calif - 1 ♂ seen in [cf. June 27]
same tall, dense shrub area where several probably nested.
July 31 Near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft., 1.2 mi. SSW Donner Pass, Glacer Co, Calif - 2 ♂♂, 1 ♀ seen in red fir - lodgepole pine forest and narrow strip of low alders in opening of same.
Aug. 1 E. end L. Van Norden [see above] - 2 seen.
Aug. 2 7100 ft., 3/4 mi. W Donner Pass [see above] - 3 seen
near Sugar Bowl Lodge [" " ] - several, with other warblers.
Aug. 14 2+ seen in red fir + pine forest N of lodge.
Aug. 15 E. end L. Van Norden - 2 in willows
Aug. 22 6300 ft., Am. River C. road, 3+ mi. S L. Van Norden, Glacer Co, Calif
1 seen in dense chaparral of ceanothus cordulatus & fresnensis ?, manganita, prunus emarginata, & chisquopin with scattered small black oaks & tall yellow pines.
