Cogswell 1950 Vermivora celata 2 July 25 7/100+ ft., 3/4 mi. w Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif - 3+ seen, .. 27 in edge of extensive shrub thickets (see July 5). July 26 8800 ft., 2 mi. S, 1 mi. E Mt. Rose, Carson Range, Washoe Co., Nev. - 1 seen in sparse subalpine forest of whitebark pine, mountain hemlock, lodge- pole, silver pines; it was foraging primarily in the hemlocks, although a copse of willows was visible in a sandy hollow nearby. July 31 near Sugar Bowl Lodge [see p. 1] - 2 or 3 noted on each of 3 short visits to fanato; they now seem to be spreading thru forest without regard for tree species. early Increasingly common, a very big influx Aug. having taken place in the 1st days of this two month. about 100 est. were recorded on a ~1 1/2 hr. walk thru forest of red fir, lodgepole & silver pines N of lodge on Aug. 3, fully 30 of them in one loose "flock" (with other species admixed). None of their birds sang. Aug.5 Cisco Grove [see p. 1] - about 8 or 10 encountered in 4 hrs. spent in & along edge of riparian woodland. Aug.6 Daggett Pass, 7450 ft. Carson Range, Douglas Co. Nev. scented shrubs of 2 seen in open forest of Jeffrey pine forest on dry ridge. Aug.7 near Sugar Bowl Lodge [see above] - the big wave has receded somewhat - only about 30 total seen in same area, similar coverage as on Aug. 3. Aug.11 Still fewer, but still found here - there all thru forest & shrub thicket areas. - 7100 ft., 1/2 mi. S Donner Pass, Placer Co. Calif. - about 5 seen or heard calling + 2 heard singing (!) in forest patches + Alder, cherry & huckleberry thickets.
