Cogswell 1950 Vireo solitarius June 23, July 7, July 21} N. side Bear Valley, 4685 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - 2 singing (1 of them seen well) in large black oak just within edge of yellow pine - incense cedar forest. July 8 7150 ft., 3/4 mi. W Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - 1 heard singing from dense thicket of bitter cherry, tobacco brush, and small aspens - with scattered Jeffrey pines & white firs nearby. S facing slope. This is on a steep July 22 Cisco Grove, 5650 ft., on N fork Yuba R., Placer Co., Calif. 1 heard singing from tall black cottonwoods where mixed with a few lodgepole & Jeffrey pines. July 25, July 31} near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft., 1.2 mi., SSW Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - 1 seen in forest clump (cedar fir - lodgepole & sives pines) at border of willow thickets of wet "Cowgill Meadow". It was singing. July 25, Aug. 2, Aug. 3} 7100 ft., 3/4 mi. W Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - 1+ seen (singing at less than normal field speed) in similar area to July 8. Aug. 3 near Sugar Bowl Lodge [see above] - 1 seen in fairly dense red fir + pine forest; it was among flood of wanderers, methadites & 2 warbling vericis. Aug. 4 N. side Bear Valley, 4590 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - 1 heard edge singing in black oak - yellow pine - incense cedar forest. Aug. 11 7100 ft., 1/3 mi. S Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - 1 heard singing. Aug. 12 near Sugar Bowl Lodge [see above] - 1 heard singing in forest. I am surprised to find these obviously up mtn migrants still singing fairly lustily. Aug. 17 1 heard giving a hesitant, subdued song. Aug. 18 Emigrant Gap, 5100 ft., Placer Co., Calif. - 1 heard singing in mesa black oaks & chapaval. Aug. 27 6900 ft., 1/3 mi. S W Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. 1 heard singing in conifer forest by opening.
