Copperwell 1950 Regulus calendula June 17 near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft., 1.2 mi. SSW Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. 2 heard singing in red fir - lodgepole pine - white pine forest, both on fairly gentle NW slope. June 17 (p.m.) Yuba Pass, 5800 ft. Nevada Co., Calif. - 1 heard singing in dense conifers (yellow-Jeffrey pine, incense cedar, white fir, etc.) near a small pond. June 20 near Sugar Bowl Lodge 7000-7300 ft (see above) - 5 heard .. 21) singing on pre 2 hr. walk in red fir - white pine forest on steeper N.-facing slopes. 3 singing in forest below Sugar Bowl itself on 21st. June 23 5100 ft., 1/2 mi. S Lake Spaulding, Nevada Co., Calif. - 1 heard (lateam) singing in tall, dense conifers. July 1 near Sugar Bowl Lodge (see above) - 2+ singing regularly in July 3 red fir - white pine forest on N. base of Deaney Mtn & Crow's Nest Peak respectively .. The former one is accompanied occasionally by a scolding #; but so far I have located no nest. July 6 6800 ft., near Norden R.R. Sta., Placer Co., Calif. - 1 singing in matter open lodgepole pine - red fir forest near large This locale a much more xeric one than those above. July 7 2100 ft., 1/2 mi. S Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - 1 singing in same vicinity as R. satrapa (see that sp.). This occur- rence of both kinglets in the same areas & even the same trees at times is amazing. One would think they would compete ecologically, yet no evi. dence of animosity between them has come to my attention. July 9 7100 ft., Middle Martin Cr., Placer Co., Calif. - 1 heard singing, 1 seen in conifers near dependable stream.
