July 24 (cont) - (observations at nest).
3:52 - Squirrel went on down trunk of fallen tree the nest is in.
3:52'1/2 - Chipmunk came behind root crown. Solitaire's head went back to resting position.
3:55 - Chipmunk went down the log, 40 ft. beyond nest.
4:00 - Male came to small pine about 25 ft. east of nest. Peculiar wing fling. Vertically exaggerated wing beat. Came from direction of squirrel which was 75 ft. beyond nest on log.
4:12 - Male flew 100 ft. south to forest floor and returned to tree-foraging.
4:16 - Male flew 50 ft. southwest.
4:18 - One observer went within 2'2 ft. of nest and took moving pictures of bird on nest.
4:20 - Observer flushed bird from nest by putting hand 6 inches from her. Nest had four eggs, pale blue with light brown speckles.
July 29 This nest still contains 4 eggs; adult incubating
July 31 Today it has 1 young bird, eyes still closed, with only sparse down on upperparts. Other 3 eggs still in nest, and the adult bird is still incubating apparently. It flew off in the same non-demonstrative manner as
