still in usual haunts near horse barn, coral
a pump house below earthen L. Van Norden dam.
aug.1 only 1 ♂ seen here.
aug.2 E. slope "Signal Well" 7100 ft., 3/4 mi. W Donner Pass,
Placer Co., Calif. - 1 ♂ in fairly bright plumage
(certainly not as worn as the ♀ of L. Van Norden
pair of July 6) foraged over, amongst a low
shrubs of a cleared slope above paved highway.
aug.3 1 female in this same area.
aug.5 Stampede Valley, 6000 ft., eastern Sierra Co., Calif. - 3
seen along road in low, very dry sagebrush
country - but with a trickle of water in
nearby low swale.
aug.6 near Renoa, 4800 ft., Douglas Co., Nev. - 1 flying
low over sagebrush-covered alluvial fan
near W. edge of broad, open Carson Valley.
aug.7 near Mary L., 7050 ft., 1/3 mi. SSW Donner Pass, Placer Co,
Calif. - 1 ♂ on mire over sandy clearing in
pachly forest + chaparral.
aug.17 Little Truckee R. valley, 5850 ft., 1½ mi. SW Stampede
Valley [see above] Sierra Co., Calif. - 3♀♀ seen in
sagebrush-bordered,
grasssy valley pastured to cattle.
aug.24 NE side L. Van Norden [see p. 4, before] - 1♀ still
present (same one?), but not near nest hole in pole.
aug.25 near Mary Lake [see above] - 1 ♂ and 1 ♀ in same
sandy clearing.
