July 6 (cont'd) NE Lake Van Norden, 6800 ft. Placer Co., Calif.
10:58. F. bird stuck head from nest
and looked about, then joined
mate on wire. F. stretched and
preened herself-then flew
to high pines about 200yds. away,
staying 10 or 11 min. during which
time M.bird flew to nest every
three to five minutes-but did not
enter.
F. bird returned to mate near nest on
wire-both flew to ground where
they hopped about not more than 30
or 50 ft from nest. M.bird returned
to nest and looked in-then to guard
position on wire.
After 10 min. rest. F. returned to en-
ter nest where M. looked in upon
her-then flew to meadow 100yds.
away.
Conclusion- Nesting period, no
young in evidence.
