Síalia currucoides
July 4 N side L Van Norden, 6750-6800 ft. Placer ? Nevada Co., Calif
The several nests discovered on June 20 now apparently
contain young, judging from the frequency of visits
with insects in cells of both parents.
July 5 NE slope Squaw Creek, 7900 ft. Placer Co., Calif - 1 pair on open
half snow covered slope by head of big ski lift.
Trees nearby are in scattered clumps only.
July 6 NE Lake Van Norden, 6800 ft. Placer Co., Calif - 2 audubon
campers' original observation record on 1st nest des
cribed on June 20 follows. It indicates incubation
again going on (or possibly brooding); yet if above
July 4 note is correct, this pr. had young then.
Observation point about 50ft. from
nest in hole in telephone pole 50 ft,
from road and 200yds. from stand
of Pines and low brush.
Time 10:35 AM., P.D.S.T.
M bird on wire about 10' from nest
where he remained quiet for 10
minutes then flew to ground and
back to position on wire, stayed
within 20 to 40ft of nest some-
times on ground sometimes on
post or wire. Did not seem to be
gathering food.
