Cogswell 1950 Hyllocichla ustulata June 24 Cisco Grove, 5650 ft. on S. Fork Yuba R., Placer Co. Calif. - 1 heard. July 3,8 singing from tall black cottonwoods with dense understory of willow, creek dogwood, & many herbs. July 7 5100 ft., 1/3 mi. SE Lake Spaulding, Placer Co. Calif. - 1 heard singing, apparently in area of tall shrubs & young black oaks on moist N-facing slope surrounded by dense forest. The area is an old roadbed. July 19 along US Route 40 near Baxter's, Plac., Calif. - 1 heard singing in similarly dense conifer forest (transition zone) containing Douglas fir & much dogwood & deerbrush along road. July 22 Cisco Grove [see above] - 1 heard singing. General: Altho later visits to Cisco Grove were made, none of these thrushes were found. This could easily be due solely to the cessation of singing & consequent difficulty of beating them. In 1948 one singing bird was regular at the W. end of Donner Lake, east of the Sierra crest and 14 mi. from Cisco Grove. Two locusts [illegible] were the closest to the pass at which this sp. was recorded. # None were found at Donner L. this year.
