Coggswell 1950 Turdus migratorius 3 Aug. 17 Hampshire Rocks, 5900 ft., on S. Fork Yuba R., Placer Co., Calif. about 15 seen in mixed conifer & riparian (cottonwood & aspen) growth along stream, including several fledglings begging food. One adult was eating the not quite ripe dogwood (Cornus californicus) berries, the first berry-eating by Robins I have noted this season. Aug. 18 Emigrant Gap, 5000+ ft., Placer Co., Calif. - about 40 flew high over chaparral & forest-covered slope during 30 min. we spent on road on it. They were in small flocks, behaving much like migrating Robins. Aug. 23 Helena Cr. Camp, 6600 ft., Carson Range, Washoe Co., Nev. 2+ seen on ground in Jeffrey pine - white fir - black cottonwood forest on alluvial fan near stream. They have been noted here on July 26, Aug 9 also. On latter date, 3 were also seen at Little Washoe Lake, 5020 ft.; flying into cottonwood trees from silt-algae covered lake shore. Aug. 25 near Sugar Bowl Lodge [see p.1] - About 20 encountered on a 1 hr. 50 min. walk thru rather dense forest, with two large open areas with scattered trees. None were singing. No feeding of fledglings noted. General -- seemingly as common in suitable "edge" habitats as m 1948, but the song chorus never seemed to get to the crescendo it did m early July of that year. General impression of nesting success this year was that was fairly high.
