Cogswell 1950 Turdus migratorius June 17 near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000ft., 1.2 mi. SSW Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - 6 seen on 3 hr. walk thru red fir - lodgepole pine forest, & 2 meadows. Only 2 or heard singing; this is certainly not full spring song frequency, but snow is still deep in forest. June 20 near Norden R.R. Sta., 6800ft., Placer Co., Calif. - 2 nests located, 1m lodgepole pine 20 ft. above ground, other on cross-arm of telephone pole amid many wires. & surrounded by young lodgepole forest. Both are within few hundred feet of shore of L. Van Norden. Incubating birds on both nests. June 24 Cisto Grove, 5650 ft., on S. Fork Yuba R., Placer Co., Calif. 8+ (8:30 -9:45 a.m.) seen in 1/4 hrs. spent in & near riparian woodland bordered by lodgepole & Jeffrey pine forest. 2 singing. 2+ fledglings seen. Late June - Sugar Bowl Lodge, Donner Pass, & Norden areas (see above) L.Van becoming more conspicuous now & songs more frequent. Perhaps the lack of activity earlier was due to snow still over feeding grounds. Some 5 or 6 NESTS have been discovered, all in forest near small or large meadows, along the edge of clearings for roads or power lines, or on the buildings at the lodge. Incubation in progress, small. June 25 Sierra Valley, 4900 ft., Sierra & Plumas Cos., Calif. - 15+ seen in small towns (Sierraville, Battley, & Beckwourth) & about farms north trees. June 25} Breno & several mi. S., 4500 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. - fairly com- June 27 mon on lawns & about farms with wet grassland & cottonwoods.
