sagebrush covered areas of this open valley; these
being noted while driving & at one brief stop.
June 27 4700 ft., 1 mi. E, 3/2 mi. N Steamboat Sprgs, Washoe Co., Nev - 2
seen on top of tall sagebrush & antelopebrush bushes
on alluvial slope W. of Virginia Range.
June 28 5550-5600 ft., E of Boca Reservoir, Nevada Co., Calif - 2 seen,
& 1 heard singing in open sagebrush & antelope brush
valley.
July 10 (a.m.) - about 5 seen in this same area. They seem to avoid
the areas of pure sagebrush & grass, being concen-
trated in stands of taller antelope brush (Burskia tri-
dentata) & lower sagebrush, with some open ground
between.
July 11 (p.m.) 1 flushed from a Nest containing 5 eggs, placed
1 1/2 ft. above ground in stanger branches of an intertwinning
bush (sagebrush & antelope brush). The bird returned
within 20 min., for it flushed again when we showed
the nest to someone else. 2 birds, presumably the pair,
sat on tops of bushes 100 to 200 ft. away while we
looked in the nest. No songs were heard.
July 24 This nest now contains 3 (possibly 4) young.
A pair of adults were seen nearby.

now empty nest, both with insects in bill.
