Cogswell 1950 Salpinctes obsoletus June 24 N. slope Disney Peak, 7400 ft., & 1.3 mi. 55W Donner Pass, Glacier C. Calif. of agglomerate 1 singing from outcroppings, 2 bouldery slopes on cleared areas near Sugar Bowl ski lift. June 27. Reiger Lookout, 5500 ft., 2 mi. E Steamboat Springs, Washoe C. Nev. Several (3+) seen, heard singing on rock outcrops & road cuts in pinon-juniper woodland area. George Treichel, who followed them up, reports seeing 6 birds at once within an area of 50 ft. diameter, 4 of them singing! July 12 2 heard singing in this same area, but at widely divergent points today. July 23 Greel Peak & Job's Sister, 10,500-10,900 ft., Carson Range, Eldorado, alpine los. Calif. - 3 heard in tumbled rock & fell-fields of summit ridge well above timber line. July 30 6600 ft., ½ mi. E Donner Pass, Glacier-Nevada C. Calif. 1 heard on extensive talus below S.P.R.R. tracks Aug. 5 Floriston, 5300ft., along Truckee R. Canyon, Nevada C. Calif. 1 hopping about the brick & concrete ruins of the old paper mill along S.B. tracks of the river. Aug. 9 Reiger Lookout [see above] - 1 ad., carrying insects in bill, progressed across a grassy slope by short flights from low rock to low rock & finally went on into pinons. It made 2 or 3 quick runs (successful?) after small grasshoppers from its perch on one rock. Aug. 10 7950 ft. peak, 2 mi. 5W Donner Pass, Glacier C. Calif. - 1 on barren, volcanic rock cliff of ridge above forested slopes.
