11161/4 - ♂ sang from 100+ ft N of nest, other
bird (therefore 4) still on branches near
nest.
1117 - ♂ sang from trees 120+ ft E of nest.
1120 - observations ended.

Calif. - 1 singing in dense red fir - lodgepole pine forest

July 21 Yuba Gap, 5800 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - 2 heard in
white fir - incense cedar - lodgepole pine forest.

ing occasionally. 1 to 3 on all visits to dense
forest areas.
Aug. 1 N. Shore L. Van Norden, 6770 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - 1 seen
entering & leaving a NEST which is wedged behind
the slightly loose bark on the side of a 2½" thick
trunk of a dead lodgepole pine. R.B. says dis
covered this nest on July 30, at which time he said
he felt at least 1 egg in the nest, which is at
about eye level above ground. The frequency of
sints (about every 3-4 min.) today indicates young.
