Copquell 1950 July 6 (cont'd) Certhia familiaris 5 0906 - I closer to N on limbs on W side of tree. - appar. went to N but I missed that 0907 - she flew down to base of Red fir 8 ft N, of Nest across opening. a few sec. later she flew out onto grass 10+ ft from base of fir, caught a whitish insect (moth) returned to fir trunk wheeled it several times, creeped a bit, then flew back to Nesttree & alighted on bare limb 5 ft below Nest, called once ('ree') & crept toward Nest (into it ?). 0910 - I creeping on bare limb 2-3 ft from Nest bill apparently empty. (? went to Nest) 0910½ - I flew away from Nest tree to NNW. 0914 - 2 birds together, I alighting on branches near Nest, other flew at same time to base of red fir 105 ft N (sang because I sang from near N a moment later). 0915¼ - I sang from W of Nest (1 tree away). 0916 - " " " " - observations ended 1036 - " resumed, same post 1037 - adult flew in from ESE & alighted on trunk of Nesttree, crept upward. no calls given. 1038 - had worked around to bare limbs below nest 1038½ - into nest, out after 5-10 sec., flew ESE to beyond 50 ft. distance. 1040 - observer moved to open area between trees 30 ft E of Nest.
