Cogswell 1950 Certhia familiaris 4 July 6 (cont.) - @ 0833 - observer moved to 60 ft. ESE of Nest to try & check on distance covered by foregng bird. 0843¾ - nothing has happened at Nests far as I could see. Nentrance not visible from here, but limbs used by approaching birds are. A Steller's Jay called 100 ft. N of Nest. 0846 - "see - see" call heard from beyond (NW) of Nest 0846 ¼ - I came to barkless limb, then hopped over to Nestlimb, but 4 ft dist'd from the Nest; creeping up a presumably mts' Nest. 0846 ¾ - returned to barkless limb., then on to several other limbs of Nestr's just above height of Nest. Lost him. 0851 - I creeping up prox. on another barkless limb 15 ft. under nest, worked across to other limbs somewhat closer 0851 ¾ - "see" call heard from tree between me & Nest tree. other bird still on limbs below nest. 0853 - observing interrupted (while I went & retrieved Myial Sparrow Hawk from mobbing Blackbirds) 0902 - Observations resumed same post. I sang from trunk of Lodgepole pine 40 ft E of Nst; 4 creep. ing. on trunk of Lodgepole 30 ft SE of Nest at same time. 0903½ - I singing from trees (pines & firs). 100 ft E. 0904 { . . . still heard singing same area 0905 { 4 on barkless limb on N side of Nest tree > below Nest
