Cogswell 1950 Certhia familiaris 2 July 4 (cont'd) end of the bark, close under the bare part of the limb. The site is about 40 ft. above SSEward ground, 7 ft. out from trunk of the 90 ft. high tree. There are other lodgepole pines of approximately the same height or less scattered at [illegible] to 60 ft. intervals for the surrounding 150 ft. in all directions except to the S, where only 1 or 2 trees are between the next tree and the Summit Valley meadow. Some tall red firs are located about 80 + 85 ft. N of the nest, beyond which point the forest is a moderately dense lodgepole pine red fir forest association. Several trips by both birds of the pair. were made to the nest with food while a group of observers watched from 70 ft. away. The J sang occasionally from nearby trees. on a S p.m. visit with another group, the activity was noticeably less July 1 (see above under June 23) July 8 near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft.
