June 17 Big Bend Camp Std., 5750 ft., on S. Fork Yuba River, Placer Co., Calif.
I heard singing in tall dense white firs.
June 20 near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft., 1.2 mi. 55W Donner Pass, Placer Co,

Calif - 1 to 3 heard or seen on each of several expeditions
" 28 into the denser forest areas (red fir-lodgepole pine).
June 23 Bear Valley, 4985 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - 2 singing, 1+
other seen in Incense Cedar, Yellow Pine, Black Oak
forest near edge of large meadow. 2 here also on
July 7.
5200 ft., 1/2 mi. S Lake Spaulding, Nevada Co., Calif - 2 heard
singing in tall, dense forest (white fir, Incense Cedar,
Yellow Pine, Sugar Pine) with dogwood, etc. understory.
June 24 - W. end Donner Lake 6000 ft. Nevada Co., Calif. - 2 heard
singing in the dense stand of <1-2 1/2 ft. d.b.h.
lodgepole pines on flat W of lake.
June 24 Ice Lakes, 6880 ft., 3 1/3 mi. W, 1 mi S Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif
2 heard singing on mid-p.m., 2 mile hike around
the lakes in lodgepole pine - red fir forest.
June 30 Big Bend Camp Std. (see above) - at least 3 came to
my pinyon - saw what cool whistle given
under the firs here. Same result a.m. &
p.m.
July 4 - 6800 ft., near Norden RR Sta., Placer Co., Calif - A NEST
was located by Mrs. J.L. Larkin. It is wedged between
a limb which descends at about a 20° angle and a
curled piece of bark some 1 1/2 ft. long which has
pulled away from the limb & now droops below
it. Some nest material can be seen protruding
near the lower (large) opening, but the birds come eggs
through the circular opening at the more tightly rolled
