Cogswell 1950 Sitta canadensis 3 Aug. 11-18 Sugar Bowl Lodge vicinity, + other "Donner Pass" localities nearly (6700-7200ft.) - 1 to 5 seen on each two-hour class trip which included any suitable conifer forest of any extent. There has apparently been some influx over the nesting population, since they were encountered only in certain (usually the denser) parts of the forest in June-early July. Aug. 24 Ice Lakes Camp Ground (N.E. of Dulverist L.) [see p. 2] 2 came to within 5 ft. of some persons seated in a group of 12 observers under the moderately open lodgepole pine forest. (of nos. seen here June 29, Aug. 10). Aug. 25 7100' ft., 1/3-1/2 mi. S Donner Pass, Placer Co. Calif. - 3 seen in red firs of patchy, but dense fir-pine forest. - near Sugar Bowl Lodge [see above] - 1 in red fir - silver pine - lodgepole pine forest by lodge today & yesterday. Seemingly, the influx of mid- august has already dwindled again.
