Cogswell 1950 Rica pica June 27 Little Washoe Lake, 5020 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. - 1 flew across lake from sagebrush into cottonwoods on W bank. July 26 2 seen in tall sagebrush SE of lake. Aug. 6 Washoe Valley E & NE Washoe L., 5050 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. 2 seen in sagebrush - antelope brush vegetation, with a few cottonwoods within [illegible] sight. Aug. 9 Truckee Canyon 5200 ft., along US Route 40, extreme NE Nevada Co., Calif. - 2 flew low across road in open Jeffrey pine + tce shrubland. The Truckee River was within 200 yards. [Aug. 9] Pleasant Valley, 4800 ft., 1+ mi. SW Steamboat Sprgs., Washoe Co., Nev. - 1 seen by others ahead of me in the 4 car Audubon Fremont party. This is partly irrigated grassland with cotton woods & Lombardy poplars as windbreak + doorway trees nearby. Aug. 17 Little Truckee R. valley, 5900 ft., 3 mi. E, 5+ mi. N Hobart Mills (Nev. Co.), Calif. - 2 seen in open Jeffrey pine forest near low, sparse sagebrush flat (stone ground) about 1/8 mi. from the river. A few junipers (sp?) were also present in the forest edge, 1 of them at least 30 ft high; the magpies flew from (or near) this tree. Aug. 23 Truckee Canyon, 5200 ft. [see above] - 1 seen in almost exactly same spot as on Aug. 9.
