Coggswell 1950 Cyanoitta Stelleri [N.B. - see also Muttalornis borealis for June 21, July 8] June 17- W. & SW of Donner Pass, 7200-6000' ft., Placer & Nevada off. Coy. Calif. - seen or heard frequently in the forested to areas, seemingly more common than in 1948, altho early this may be due to mere shifting of location of July some pairs to spots I visit frequently. There are at least 2 pairs in the forest edge by Sugar Bowl Lodge & about the fir clumps in Coggswill meadow w. of it. 2 pairs also on Signal Hill, 3/4 mi. W.of th pass (open Jeffrey pine forest + many shrubs). Maximum no. seen in any 2 hr. class period was the 4 on Signal Hill. No nests found. June 24- W.end Donner L., 5950 ft., Nevada Co, Calif - about 5 in the lodgepole pine forest on flat W of lake, 1 or 2 of them ranging into adjacent aspens along a creek. June 30. Big Bend Camp Ground, 5800ft, Placer Co, Calif - about 5 seen or heard in 10+ acre stand of tall, old firs, Jeffrey pines, etc. 3 came to my owl call, along with many small birds. July 7 Yuba Sup, 5300 ft., Nevada Co, Calif - 2 seen in Jeffrey pine white fir- incense cedar forest near a small lake. N. side Bear Valley 4885ft, Nevada Co, Calif - 2 in dense yellow pines- incense cedar forest near bordering black oaks. July 23- 5 of High Meadow, 8000+ ft., Carson Range, Eldorado Co, Calif. late 1 heard in red fir - Jeffrey pine forest near aspens. July. W. & SW of Donner Pass [see above] - numbers & locales about same; still no nests located, but probably now in use. 8 pairs at Big Bend Camp Gnd 5800'ft on 30th.
