Empidonax wrightii
2
June 21 (cont.)
with the 5th primary longer than the 10th - the outer web
of the outer rectrix pale gray.
There does not seem to be any essential
difference between the 1st of the 2 songs recorded
above and that which I have been attributing
to E. hammondii (except of that sp.)
in the red fir belt proper.
The "sezel" note ("sengel" in Peterson's 'Guide') may
possibly be characteristic of wrightii, when it is given.
I am certain that the bird collected gave a
single low middle note in a series of 3 at
certain times.
July 11 S. facing slope, 6500-6300 ft., 3+ mi. S Lake Van Norden,
Glacier Co, Calif. - about 5 Empidonaces singing
from dense chaparral or chaparral - black
oak areas were probably of this sp.
aug. 6 Daggett Pass - E. slope Carson Range E. of lit., 7400-6300 ft,
Douglas Co, Nev. - about 5 (this sp.)
seen (to heard - "pit" notes)
in open forest of Jeffrey pine to white fir but
the lower elevation) with considerable scattered
shrub understory. The character of the forest
is much like that in S. Calif. mts. where this
species is common.
