June 24 Ice Lakes, 3-3/4 mi. W, 1 mi. S Donner Pass, Glacier Co., Calif.
about 5 heard calling (1+ full song) on a 2+ mile
hike around the lakes in p.m. The forest is rather
moderate density, mostly lodgepole pine, with
firs in the more moist areas. ?? this sp. of course.
July 1
to July 13 Sugar Bowl Lodge & "Cowgill meadow" areas (see above), 7000 ft,
1 or 2 heard (usually single "k'e-se' notes) on all
trips into dense forest, & the fir clump of June 17 loss.
July 19,
July 20 2 heard giving a 2-noted "song" (k'e.sei,
pseeet) from same forest & forest border areas.
July 25 1 heard giving full 3-parted "song", others only
1 or 2 notes
were
Aug. Empidonax sp.? present in this area until
at least 18th, but since they gave only the
soft "pit" notes which all the species do, I
cannot be sure of which they were.
Aug. 25 7100 ft., 1/3 mi. S Donner Pass, Glacier Co., Calif. - 2
Empidonax sp.? calling "pit" from outer branches
(at heights of 6 to 30 ft.) of firs & pines along
ski trail where either this sp. or weightii.
