June20 - Soda Springs, 6750 ft. Nevada Co., Calif. - 2 singing ("weeps-
pa-deed") from willow thickets along outlet stream
below I. Van Norden dam. 1 of them also flew up
to telephone wire 12+ ft. above tops of willows
& sang from there several times. - Jul10 - 1+ still
singing here.
June24 - Cisco Grove, 5650 ft., on S fork Yuba River, Placer Co., Calif.
2 Empidonax sp? foraging from lower branches of
black cottonwoods and bare ground below them -
probably this species (they were silent). Another
sang from the dense riparian woodland & thickets
about 300 ft. E of this spot. - In this latter spot
on July 5 also singing.

E end Lake Van Norden, 6767 ft. Placer Co., Calif. - 3 singing
"weeps-pa-deed" from tall willow thickets along
mouth of Sugar Bowl Creek. (broad open meadow nearby).

"Cogswell Meadow", 7000 ft., 1.2 mi. SSW Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif.
1 singing from willow thickets which were leafless
2 weeks ago, but are now quite green canopied.
July8 Cisco Grove [see above] - 1 singing from riparian woodland.
July22 2 singing here today; there probably are 2 pairs,
1 in each of the 2 denser patches of woodland
(about 8 & 20 acres, respectively).
July23 Kings Beach, 6250 ft. N end Lake Tahoe, Placer Co., Calif.

July17-31 "Cogswell Meadow" [see above] - 1 singing regularly from
restricted portion of the willow thickets. Soft pit
Aug3 pair seen together here (I was singing, other called
Aug4 1 singing; Aug11 - sang just once [last time
Aug14-21 Donner Pass region - several noted in riparian thickets
Empidonax (probably this sp)]
