June 17 Yuba Pass, 5800 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - ? in Jeffrey Pine, Incense Cedar, white fir, Red (?) fir forest at border of small lake.
(an excellent case of mixture of Canadian & Transition zone plants).
June 23 Bear Valley, 4580 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - 1♂ in dense grove of young incense cedars near border of large meadow & with typical Transition zone forest behind it.
June 24 N. of W end Donner L., 6000 ft., Nevadale, Calif. - 1 in lodgepole pine Jeffrey Pine forest, with aspen & willow nearby.
June 30 Big Bend Camp Gnd., 5750 ft., on S Fork Yuba River, Placer Co., Calif. 1♂ & 1♀ seen on lower parts of young conifer trees along road under tall white fir, Jeffrey pine, lodgepole pine forest.
July 4 S side Donner Lake, 6030 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - 1 in similar forest to last, with some red fir also - & a good shrub understory. There are numerous broken top trees.
July 7 Yuba Pass, 5800 ft., Nevada - Placer Co. line, Calif. - a pair entering & leaving (when disturbed) a NEST hole about 12 ft. up in a telephone pole at forest edge by small lake [see June 17].
N side Bear Valley, 4580 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - 1♂ in dense forest of yellow pine, incense cedar, & black oak.
July 9 7100 ft., ½ mi. S Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - 1♀ seen in forest of red fir, lodgepole & silver pines (& few Jeffrey upslope) near cleared ski trail.
July 20 7000 ft., 1½ mi. SSW Donner Pass - 1♀ in similar forest. (but the species is definitely not common in this ...).
July 21 Yuba Pass [see above] - ♀ flew from NEST which contains squealing young.
Bear Valley [" " ] - 3 seen in forest & forest edge.
