Dendrocepos pubescens
June 23 - n. side Bear Valley, 4585 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - 1 heard calling in large black oaks in edge of yellow pine-incense cedar forest, a few hundred feet from edge of large open meadow (Bear River headwaters).
June 24 Cisco Grove, 5650 ft. on S fork Yuba River, Placer Co., Calif.
1 in black cottonwoods & aspens along river.
July 8 1 pair seen in this same area; they foraged on smaller limbs & twigs of tall cottonwoods.
Aug. 5 1 heard calling in same area of riparian growth;
also 1 found dead (so badly decomposed) on sandy
ground under the cottonwoods of a picnic area.
Aug. 18 SE end Bear Valley, 4600 ft., Placer Co., Calif. - 1 heard
calling from tall spreading black oaks & maples near YMCA camp at edge of broad meadow.
