Disney Peak (cont.)
VISITS: June 20, 22, 24, 26 (twice); July 1, 3, 7,
13, 17, 20, 25, 27; Aug. 2, 3, 8, 10, 14.
Donner Lake, 5930 (-6100 ft. on trips around it), 3 to
6 mi. W Truckee, southern Nevada Co., Calif. -- areas
from which observations are recorded are the sandy
valley at W. end (inlet) of lake, and the dirt road
steep mountainside immediately S of lake.
VEG. TYPES: W. end -- coniferous forest (Pinus
murrayana, in solid stand on older alluvium, mixed
with Pinus jeffreyi on rockier borders and in present
stream flood area); riparian woodland (scarcely de-
veloped, the Populus tremuloides trees being only dis-
continuously present along stream & with conifers every-
ywhere admixed, a few Populus trichocarpa near SW &
NW corners of lake); riparian thickets (Salix sp.,
Cornus californicus) and grassland (narrowly, along
stream flood plain only).
S. side -- coniferous forest (Abies
concolor, Abies magnifica, Pinus murrayana, Pinus jef-
freyi) with well developed understory on most (moist)
slopes (Populus tremuloides in draws & over seepages,
Ceanothus cordulatus, Prunus emarginata, Ribes sp., etc).
Forest at SE end of lake (on flat) is similar to that
at W. end.

W. end -- June 24; Aug. 10
S. side -- July 4; Aug. 10, Aug. 11
Donner Pass, 7135 ft. (7189 just N of Highway 40), on
Nevada Co.--Placer Co. line, Calif. -- between Secs.
16 & 21, R 15 E, T 17 N.
Donner Pass, 1/2 mi. E of, 6500-6600 ft., on Co. line yet.
VEG. TYPES: large rounded (glaciated) granite out-
crops with scattered trees & shrubs (Pinus jeffreyi,
Pinus murrayana, Juniperus occidentalis, Arctostaphy-
los nevadensis, A. patula, Ceanothus cordulatus, Spi-
raea densiflora, Populus tremuloides near stream); the
shrubs forming almost solid chaparral at base of large
talus slope just above where I observed (below So. Pac.
R.R. tracks) (Lloyd Ingles & Ferd Ruth saw & heard
Ochotona princeps on this talus slope; but I did not).
VISIT: July 30 (plus driving past this general
area on all "Donner Pass to Reno" trips & those to
Boca Reservoir & Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake, & Truckee).
