June 20 6800 ft., near Norden R.R. Sta., Placer Co., Calif. - 1 ? on tall pines (Jeffrey & lodgepole) near border of meadow. June 23 N Base Disney Peak, 7000 ft., 1.2 mi. 5SW Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif. - 1 in dense red fir - white pine - lodgepole pine forest, near a cleared ski slope. June 24 Cisco Grove, 5650 ft., on S. Fork Yuba River, Placer Co., Calif 2 seen (1 at least was a ?) in cottonwoods along river, Both of them were noisy, giving short, sharp "peck" & frequently the long, rattled series also. W of W. end Donner L., 6000 ft., Nevada Co., Calif - 1 in scattered lodgepoles & Jeffrey pines among aspen & willow thickets on flat 1/3 mi. W of lake. June 27 Galena Cr. Camp, 6600 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. - 1 ? foraging on trunks of Jeffrey Pines, white firs, & Black Cotton woods. June 28 Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft., 1.2 mi. 5SW Donner Pass, Placer Co., Calif One gave the long, rattled call several times from the dense red fir - lodgepole pine forest N of the lodge. June 30 "peck" calls heard in same area. July 6 near Norden R.R. Sta. 6800 ft. - "peck" calls heard in forest. July 7 N side Bear Valley, 4580 ft., Nevada Co., Calif. - heard call- ing in dense forest of yellow pine, Incense cedar, Black Oak. July 21 2 seen on trunks of all 3 [illegible] trees in forest near edge of meadow.
